The President of the International Diabetic Federation (IDF), Prof. Nam Cho, visited the Endocrinology Department of the Medical Faculty to the Medical University- Sofia, which is a center of excellent achievements in the care of diabetes and Training Center for diabetes at the International Diabetes Federation.
The President of the International Diabetic Federation (IDF), Prof. Nam Cho, who was in Bulgaria as a guest lecturer at the 18th International Congress of Medical Sciences (ICMS), visited the Endocrinology Department of the Medical Faculty to the Medical University- Sofia, which is a Center of excellent achievements in the care of diabetes and Diabetes training Center at the International Diabetes Federation. Since 2018, the Endocrinology Department has been part of the Diabetes School of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and is part of an international network that creates, coordinates, supports and conducts high-quality training of health professionals on diabetes problems. This is recognition of the longstanding experience of the Endocrinology Department as the leading center for postgraduate endocrinology training.
During the meeting Professor Nam Cho took a close look at the research and teaching activities of the Endocrinology Department. He congratulated the staff sincerely for the many activities and achievements in the field of diabetes - the campaign "Accepting diabetes to heart" of the International Diabetes Federation, in which Bulgaria presented first in the world, thanks to the active participation of the Endocrinology Department; diabetes school for medical students in connection with World Diabetes Day; developed first interactive site for patients with diabetes by the staff of the Department; the active participation in national and international research projects; the international courses of the International Diabetes Federation "Step by Step Diabetes Stage" and the European Diabetes Study Association (EASD) - three courses over the last 4 years with more than 200 participants from over 25 countries, as well as numerous publications in prestigious international editions by the academic staff. Professor Nam Cho showed great interest and appreciated the work in the field of prevention of diabetes mellitus of the Department - the 13-year strategy for screening and prevention of diabetes mellitus.
Professor Nam Cho pointed Bulgaria as a role model in the care of people with diabetes mellitus, in the face of the Endocrinology Department,. He stressed that with its competence, enthusiasm and experience, as well as with its qualified professors, the Endocrinology Department responds to the world standards for conducting a training on diabetes mellitus, which he deservedly will continue to be part of the International Diabetes School Diabetic Federation.
