Medical University – Sofia has been nominated for the ninth year in a row, as a participant in the ranking of the best universities in the world, in the databases of University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP), and in 2018 climbed by 213 places up.
URAP is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2009, at the Institute of Informatics to the Technical University in the Middle East. The main goal of URAP is to develop a world ranking system, based on academic achievement indicators that reflect the quality and quantity of their scientific publications.
The world ranking is based on 6 academic indicators for performance. Since URAP is a ranking, based on academic performance, the publications represent the basics of the classification methodology. Both quality and quantity of publications as well as the results of international cooperation in the research are used as indicators.
In compliance with the objective, every year URAP prepares World Ranking of the best Universities and publishes it the following year. It is important to note that only four Bulgarian universities have been ranked in this prestigious ranking during the mentioned period: Sofia University (SU), Medical University of Sofia (MU- Sofia), University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy and Plovdiv University.
In 2018/2019 the latest data posted by URAP shows that the MU-Sofia is ranked on second place of all universities in Bulgaria as well as on 1071 place in the world from the analyzed 4000 universities, which represent 10% of over 40 000 registered from all over the world. This result of our university is with 213 positions better than the last year's data (2017-2018). In comparison, the other two ranked universities form Bulgaria are Sofia University - on 988 place, and the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy on 1984 position. Harvard University is ranked first in the world ranking, followed by Toronto and Oxford.
Another rating, the US News & World Report, uses Clarivate Analytics In Cites data. The results for 2018/2019 in this ranking, show that 13 ranking criteria are covered by only 1250 universities from 61 countries in the world. Harvard University is ranked first place, followed by MIT and Stanford University.
It is remarkable that the two leading Bulgarian universities are in this ranking: Sofia University on 723 place and MU-Sofia on 1035 place. Only 499 universities are included in the European rankings and in the group of the best European universities – Sofia University is on 310 place, while the Medical University - Sofia is on 416.
All this information is perfectly supplemented by the ratings of the universities in Bulgaria, organized by the Ministry of Education.Since 2011 MU-Sofia has been the leader in all five professional fields in Medicine, which trains students: Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Care and Public Health.
