According to the tradition, on the Day of the health worker, the academic society recognizes its success in research and teaching activity.
The official ceremony was held in hall 2 of the National Palace of the Culture, and guests was Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Boyko Penkov, the Honorary Rector of Sofia University Academician Prof. Vladimir Ovcharov, Deputy Rectors Prof. Valentina Petkova and Prof. Dr. Tihomira Zlatanova, the President of the Bulgarian Red Cross, Acad. Hristo Grigorov, the General Director of the Bulgarian Red Cross - Prof. Krasimir Gigov, President of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union - Prof. Ilko Getov, the Mayor of Lom Municipality Mrs. Penka Penkova and others.
After the speech of Prof. dr. Viktor Zlatkov, the annual prizes were given for research and teaching activity.
The AESCULAPIUS Honorary Sign for contribution to the overall development of Bulgarian medicine was awarded to Prof. dr. Tsecomir Vodenicharov, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Management.

The Medical Faculty also awarded the traditional prizes for significant contributions in scientific research and teaching activity.
The award named after prof. Kostantin Chilov for significant contributions in scientific and teaching activity in therapeutic field was given to prof. Ognyan Georgiev, DM, Head of Propedeutics of Internal diseases department.
The award named after prof. Parashkev Stoyanov – surgical science – was given to assoc. dr. Svetoslav Toshev, MD – Surgery department
The award named after acad. Dimitar Orahovats – fundamental science – was given to prof. Anastasia Mihailova, MD – Clinical Immunology department.
The award for young scientist named after acad. Asen Hadziolov was given to:

in the field of clinical science - Assist. dr. Anna Dimitrova, MD – Alergology department,
The student award named after prof. Asen Zlatarov this year went to Mila Kairyakova, medicine student in VI year.
The Award for Outstanding Achievement and Contribution to the Medical Science and Practice Field named after Prof. Stoyan Kirkovich was given to Prof. Dr. Lyudmila Mateva, MD, Internal Medicine Department.
The rector of the Medical University – Sofia together with the deputy deans of the Medical Faculty prof. dr. Silvi Georgiev, prof. dr. Tsvetelina Tankova, prof. dr. Borislav Vladimirov and assoc. Dimitar Bolanov awarded the honorary signs.
After the official ceremony the rector of the Medical University – Sofia and the mayor of Municipality Lom, Mrs. Penka Penkova opened documentary exhibition "Dr. Andrey Georgiev - The Donor", which was organized with the assistance of newspaper Trud, journalist Lubomir Yordanov and the support of the Municipality of Lom.
Dr. Andrey Georgiev bequeathed to the young people of Bulgaria $ 5 million, from which 1 million to the Medical University – Sofia. The generous donation of the Bulgarian emigrant is a recognition to the university in which he grew up as a doctor and person.
